Katie Couric Quot Notebook Short On Salt

Blog

You can blame the first hurricane Ike and Gustav. That more than what some cities and towns can afford. They blocked barge traffic on the Mississippi this summer, salt to delay deliveries. When it came time to reorder, manufacturers do not t have enough. And what there is of salt, now cost three times what it did a year ago. Parts of the Midwest and Northeast were blitzed with more snow than usual, depletion of salt supplies. For this reason, some roads may not get as much salt, or won t be cleared to their surface. A shortage of road salt could give a bitter taste of what could come this winter. Another culprit: Last winter.
